Hey guys! Of course I am very aware that life feels a bit chaotic at the moment with everything that is going on in the world. If you’re anything like me, you have probably been reading many news stories and freaking out a little, or a lot. I’m an anxious person anyway, so I do find all of this very scary at the moment. I also started worrying about my own mental health as the social distancing and isolation can very easily lead to a lot of time in our own heads. Personally for me, I tend to get cabin fever when I am stuck indoors for too long without getting out and socialising, and it can make me feel quite down, so I wanted to write an uplifting blog post which may be read when you may be feeling this way.
- This will pass
I know it doesn’t seem like it at the moment, but it will. Everything always does. The best thing we can do is follow expert advice so we can get back to our normal, healthy lives. Social distancing is key here to get through this.
- It’s okay to feel down
I can totally relate! You can be spending so much time with your own thoughts that the bad ones get bigger and bigger. It’s completely okay to feel this way, you’re not alone. Try FaceTiming a friend or going outside. Have a good cry if you need to!
- You can put your phone down
Social media is a great thing, but can be veryyy overwhelming at times and put pressure on our mental health. I’m personally considering removing the Facebook app at the moment because it is just such a constant overload of information. Take time to do this, I always turn my phone off now whenever I get into bed, it just gives me time to properly unwind without waiting for my Snapchat or Messenger to buzz.
- It puts things into perspective
Think of all the things that you are worrying about missing if you have to stay at home constantly. Chances are the majority of these things involve people and a lack of your daily routine. Take a moment to appreciate how much value your ordinary everyday life does have and how much you love the ones that are on this journey of life with you. I’m already missing going out for a cappuccino with my mum!
- The world is still going on
It may not seem like it, but if you step outside you will notice the trees are still swaying in the wind and the sun is still shining. This is always happening of course, but now we will really notice it. We spend so much time complaining about things like the weather, when really all of these elements of nature keep us feeling grounded.
- You can find positives
Now I know this is, of course, easier said than done, but try to take some time to ask yourself what you really love doing? Think outside the Netflix box and get stuck into, or research, a hobby or passion that you’ve always wanted to put time towards.
- We’re all in this together
You don’t need to feel alone or carry fear by yourself, funnily enough, at the moment the world’s population has to be distanced, yet we’re all so together. A beautiful side of social media, eh? The side that can sometimes be drowned out by the negativity that creeps into that space.
Hope you’ve taken something from this post. The world’s physical health is currently a major focus, but our mental health is so important too.
Take care and sending you all lots of love!
